- Identification: shots of the artist or band to promote the artist's identity
- Manipulation of time (maybe non linear*)
- Performance: rock bands may be seen playing their instruments; artists may be seen lip syncing to the song; dance routines may be included... it all depends on the genre of the music and the type of music video it is!
- Spacial editing: a variety of different scenes to keep the music video interesting.
- Generally really strong relationship between sound and imagery.
