Music video analysis

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3UjJ4wKLkg

Ive chosen to analyse Rihanna's 'Take a bow' because I think the basic idea is similar to ours (having a story line along side the artist singing to the camera).
The lighting in the shots of Rihanna against the black wall brings her in to view contrasting from the background, enabling us to identify with her and for her to build on her star persona. This is because in these shots Rihanna is made to fit the ideal of a star, with her fair and make up done up, it shows that she is both pretty and skinny with stylish jewellery, we also hope to create this effect.

In this video it features Rihanna and a male character acting out a break up as she performs to the camera, I think that this allows the audience to connect with both the song and the artist as you can see the meaning behind the song through their actions. In this video conventions of a pop video can be seen, e.g. she drives away in a sports car, a lots of stars show off their fortune by including expensive props in their videos. Female artists often show empowerment in their videos and 'Take a bow' is another classicexample of this as she sets fire to her boyfriends clothes and walks away.
