Cherly under the sun music video analysis

Cheryl - Under the sun

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qr1bkbWKevE
  • Music and visuals - lots of dancing, walking in time with beat
  • temporal editing
  • Lots of close ups, eye contact with camera (demands of record label)
  • Amplifying lyrics- lyrics fit with setting (when she sings 'under the sun' its sunny)
  • Abstract- starts to rain as she says under the sun later on in the song
  • intertextual references- singing in the rain, 1950s feel
  • Voyeristic treatment of female video- e.g turning on the juke box. Costume encourages voyerism as the camera focus' on her clothes and body in the movement. This reflects how we should be looking at her (movements of camera positioned in a male point of view) And she is asparational for female target audience, tells them what the should look and act like and how males  should view them

  • Facial expressions- She looks suductively into the camera- breaks the 4th wall- two way interaction, invites spectator to objectify her. Lots of cut aways to people looking at her

  • Empowered position? From Everyones attention she is put physically in power- moving others, though shes positioned as a sexual object- is this power? or a weak position? But she is able to minipulate others with her looks.
